Dan grew up in small town central Iowa and earned his Bachelors of Architecture degree with a Minor in Digital Media from Iowa State University. Following his undergraduate degree, Dan practiced architecture and planning in the Midwest on large and small projects around the US. He later moved to Portland, Oregon, where he practiced architecture and attended Portland State University, where he earned a Master of Real Estate and Development with a focus on transit oriented development and affordable housing finance. With this academic and previous professional experience, Dan became a senior project manager of Low Income Housing Tax Credit affordable housing development for a local non-profit focused primarily on family and permanent supportive housing.
Dan recently relocated to San Francisco and is enjoying getting familiar with the city and Bay Area while working with the SSDP team to tackle our local housing crisis. He believes housing is a human right and is passionate about architecture’s ability to impact not only the built space around us but our social fabric and community. In his work, he strives to create beautiful spaces that balance the priorities of sustainability, surrounding community and user experience. He believes that great projects and positive community outcomes come through clear communication, aligned missions and strong collaboration between the client, contractor and design team. Away from work, Dan enjoys walking, biking and camping in peaceful natural settings. When the weather doesn’t cooperate, you will find him with a good cup of coffee, reading a book and listening to an old vinyl record.
At Saida + Sullivan Design Partners, Dan is responsible for architectural design, project documentation, project management, consultant coordination, technical details and sustainable design of affordable multi-family new construction and rehabilitation projects.
